Natural Floor Cleaner Recipe

Why You Should Start Making Your Own Floor Cleaner

This post contains affiliate links. If you purchase through these links, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks for your support!

1. Safer for Your Family and Pets

Most store-bought floor cleaners are packed with chemicals like ammonia,

bleach, and synthetic fragrances. These ingredients can cause a range of

issues:

Respiratory Irritation: Strong fumes can irritate your lungs and trigger

allergies or asthma.

Skin Reactions: Walking barefoot on chemically cleaned floors can cause

skin irritation.

Pet Safety: Pets are especially vulnerable since they're closer to the floor

and might ingest residues by licking their paws.

With natural ingredients like vinegar and essential oils, you eliminate those

risks. No harsh fumes, no irritating chemicals--just simple, effective cleaning.

2. Better for the Environment

When you pour chemical cleaners down the drain, they don't just disappear.

They end up in waterways, harming aquatic life and contaminating drinking

water sources! Natural ingredients, on the other hand, break down safely and

don't pose a threat to the environment.

3. More Affordable Than Store-Bought

A bottle of floor cleaner can cost anywhere from $5 to $15, while making your

own natural cleaner costs just a few cents per gallon! Plus, the ingredients

last for multiple uses, saving you even more money in the long run.

DIY Natural Floor Cleanser Recipe

Just a heads up, this post contains affiliate links. I only recommend products I personally use and love!

Here's a super simple recipe that leaves your floors clean and fresh without

any harmful residue.

Ingredients:

1 cup of white distilled vinegar (This one is my go-to option)

1 gallon of hot water (not boiling, just hot)

10-15 drops of essential oil (choose one based on your needs)

Lavender (calming scent and antibacterial properties)

Peppermint (repel pests and freshen the air)

Lemon (crisp, clean aroma and natural degreasing power)

Tea Tree (powerful antimicrobial and antifungal properties)

Instructions:

Combine all the ingredients in a bucket. I use this sturdy one and it's been a game- changer, super durable and the perfect size. Definitely worth checking out!

Dip your mop into the mixture and wring it out well. I use a self-wringing mop just like this one, it keeps my hands clean and makes the whole process easier!

Mop your floors as usual and let them air dry.

Why It Works

White Vinegar: Naturally cuts through grease, grime, and disinfects without

leaving a residue.

Essential Oils: Add a pleasant scent and can boost antibacterial properties

(especially peppermint or tea tree).

Hot Water: Helps lift dirt and grime without streaks. (Not boiling water, just hot water from the sink!)

Extra Tips:

For best results, choose essential oils that are 100% pure and organic. I've linked my favorite options from DoTerra, a trusted brand known for its high-quality, food-grade oils. Many essential oils on the market are only suitable for aromatherapy and not recommended for ingestion but DoTerra oils meet strict standards for purity and quality. Another great brand to use, is NOW brand.
