Natural Deodorant (and Pain Reliever?!)

Why I Switched to Magnesium Oil as a Natural Deodorant

I’ve been slowly swapping out everyday products for more holistic, body-supportive options, and one of the biggest shifts has been stepping away from conventional deodorants and antiperspirants. For years, I used products that worked okay, but came loaded with ingredients I didn’t feel great about putting on my skin daily.

I recently found out about magnesium oil spray, and it’s now one of my favorite natural deodorant options.

What Is Magnesium Oil Spray (and Why It Works)

Magnesium oil isn’t technically an oil at all, it’s a mix of magnesium chloride flakes and water that feels slightly oily when applied to the skin. It’s a simple, clean option that neutralizes body odor without blocking your sweat glands or disrupting your body’s natural detox process.

It helps balance the bacteria on the skin and prevents odor in a way that feels gentle and effective. And one of the coolest things? Your body actually absorbs the magnesium, which can support things like muscle tension, stress relief, and better sleep. It’s like a two-for-one.

How To Use It:

Using magnesium oil spray as a natural deodorant is simple, but there are a few tips to make the transition smoother, especially if you have sensitive skin like I do.

Start with clean skin: Apply to freshly washed underarms for best results.

Spray lightly: A few spritzes go a long way. If you’re new to it or have sensitive skin, you can dilute the spray with a bit of water.

Expect a tingle: Some people experience a slight tingling or itching at first. This usually fades as your skin adjusts but applying it over a light moisturizer (like aloe or coconut oil) can help ease the sensation.

Customize if you’d like: You can infuse the spray with a few drops of essential oils like lavender, lemon, or tea tree for added scent and antibacterial benefits.

Let it dry: Allow it to fully absorb before dressing to avoid residue on clothing.

It may take a week or two for your body to adjust if you’re switching from traditional antiperspirants, but the results are worth it, fresh, natural, and aluminum-free protection.

Ready to try it out? This is the one I use and recommend! It's a big 12 oz bottle of the purest magnesium oil and is also USP grade (which means it meets high safety and purity standards for personal or medical use).

If You’re Curious About Trying It...

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

It doesn’t stop sweat. That’s actually a good thing. Sweating is natural and healthy—this just helps keep odor under control.

It may tingle at first. You can dilute it with water or apply a gentle moisturizer afterward to ease the sensation.

You can make it your own. Use it alone or mix it with essential oils, arrowroot powder, and even a little coconut oil to create your own signature blend.

Pro Tip: Spritz some magnesium oil on achy joints and muscles to help ease the pain. If you need help sleeping, spritz some on the bottoms of your feet before you go to bed.

Final Thoughts

Switching to magnesium oil spray has been one of the simplest, most effective natural swaps I’ve made. It supports my body, keeps me feeling fresh, and fits beautifully into a more intentional, holistic lifestyle.

If you’ve been thinking about switching to a natural deodorant, magnesium oil is definitely worth exploring. And if you’ve already tried it or have your own go-to natural recipe, I’d love to hear what’s worked for you!
