Best Cheap Hangover Cure

Best Cheap Hangover (and Dehydration) Cure: Pickle Juice!

Let’s be real—hydration powders are great, but they can be kind of pricey. If you’ve ever reached for a name-brand electrolyte packet after a night out (or after a sweaty day), you probably noticed the price tag just as much as the results. Don’t get me wrong, I still use them—but when I want something quick, effective, and cheap? Pickle juice.

Pickle Juice: The Unexpected Hydration Hack

Yup, a good ol’ shot of pickle juice. It’s salty, tangy, and your body actually loves it, especially when you’re dehydrated. The key ingredient here? Sodium.

When your body loses water—whether through drinking, sweating, or just being out in the heat—it also loses essential salts and minerals. Without enough sodium, drinking water alone just runs through you. That’s why you can chug water all day and still feel off: your body needs salt to actually hold on to that water.

Pickle juice gives your body the sodium it needs to absorb water better and rehydrate faster, no fancy packets required.

Other Hydration Hacks That Actually Work

If you’re not into pickle juice (I get it), here are a few more budget-friendly hydration tricks that work just as well:

Pinch of sea salt in your water – Just a small pinch in your glass helps replenish trace minerals and improves hydration. It may seem weird to add salt to water, but remember, your sweat is salty for a reason. When you sweat, you’re losing both water and minerals. This helps bring it back into balance.

Coconut water – Full of natural electrolytes like potassium, and way easier on the wallet than some powders.

Eat your water – Cucumbers, watermelon, and citrus fruits are not only hydrating, but also packed with vitamins that support your system when it’s drained.

Hydration powders (like Liquid I.V.) – These are great for when you really need that hydration boost fast—before drinking, after a workout, or during hangover recovery. I try to keep a few on hand, especially if I know I’ll be drinking. They help extend the buzz and cut down on the next-day crash.

The Buzz Secret

I’ve noticed that when I stay on top of my electrolytes, I can actually feel my buzz longer without getting that quick drop-off or headache. That’s because dehydration hits hard when alcohol pulls water (and salt) from your body. So, when you replenish ahead of time (or mid-way through the night), it really makes a difference.

Final Thoughts

You don’t always need to spend money to stay hydrated. The next time you're feeling rundown or recovering from a night out, try a shot of pickle juice or a dash of sea salt in your water. You might be surprised how quickly your body responds.

And if you want to level up your hydration game, I’ve got you covered with this powder I love:
